About

Rehab Dorks Blog. These two renovate houses and are updating a 1920's abandoned Victorian.Who are the Rehab Dorks?

We’re Elizabeth and Michael and we’re dorks about home rehab, real estate, and design. When we’re not working on our houses, Michael works as a video producer and I teach high school art and make jewelry. We also love to travel, hike, and binge-watch tv shows. We have a big slobbery Great Pyrenees named Myrna and two cats named Piccadilly and Chelsea (due to my love of all things British).

Our Blog:

The Rehab Dorks blog will walk you through the progress on our homes and share our successes and setbacks to help you with your diy. We also highlight our favorite home gadgets, local antique and handmade stores, and art and craft projects. In between these stories, we share a little bit about our life and careers.

Our Experience:

Michael has over 15 years experience working in the home construction and maintenance field. He headed our local Habitat for Humanity housing repair program and he has tackled every home repair from plumbing to air conditioning. I am an avid D.I.Y.er and am not afraid to swing a pick axe or operate heavy machinery. As an art teacher, I also love design and can’t help but to visualize the potential in a neglected space. We are “make it work” kinds of people and we love to see a home go from a train wreck to a beautiful, comfortable space. Even though we have been doing this for a while, we share our personal experience only and do not intend it to be a 100% prescription for every situation (please see our terms & conditions).

Our Homes:

When Michael and I started dating, we each owned homes on the same street, just two blocks away. Mine was a 1930’s bungalow and Michael’s was a cute little 1940’s era home. Over the years, we have worked together to improve each other’s property. Once we decided to live together, we knew we needed a bigger space. Boy did we get it. We found a huge 1920’s Victorian house that had been empty for three years. It wasn’t in livable condition, but that didn’t stop us. We bought it and started bringing it back to life. You’ll hear about our projects on all of our houses on this blog, but we will focus mainly on our new Victorian home.

We hope you enjoy reading Rehab Dorks.
